Exciting news for Pokemon TCG fans! A new trademark, Inferno X (インフェルノX), has been officially filed by The Pokemon Company. This trademark follows the same classification as previous set names, signaling that it could be a future expansion in the trading card game.
Possible Release Timeline
Historically, trademarks for Pokemon TCG sets appear around six to nine months before the actual release. If this pattern holds, we can anticipate Inferno X launching sometime in October or November 2025. However, there have been instances where trademarks emerge out of sequence, so this timeframe isn't set in stone.

A Connection to the Mega Evolution Era?
One intriguing aspect of the trademark is the "X" in its name. This could hint at a link to the X&Y era, especially since the Mega Evolution block is set to make a grand return later this year. The upcoming August sets, Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia, will showcase Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex, reinforcing the resurgence of Mega Evolutions.
Given this focus on classic Mega Evolutions, Inferno X might feature another fan-favorite—perhaps Mega Charizard X. However, its inclusion will likely depend on the timing of the highly anticipated Z-A set release. Once that expansion arrives, we can expect a fresh wave of Mega Evolutions leading upcoming sets.
Upcoming Japanese TCG Releases
Here's a look at what's next for the Japanese Pokemon TCG release calendar:
April 18th: The Glory of Team Rocket (featuring Rocket’s Mewtwo ex)
May: No scheduled releases (continuing the trend from 2023 and 2024)
June 6th: Black Bolt and White Flare (spotlighting all 156 Unova Pokemon)
August 1st: Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia (featuring Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex)
September 5th: Two preconstructed decks (Starter Set Mega Gengar ex & Starter Set Mega Diancie ex)
October (TBA): Inferno X (expected but not officially confirmed)
With the growing focus on Mega Evolutions and exciting set releases ahead, Inferno X could be another thrilling addition to the Pokemon TCG lineup. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to its potential reveal!
