A Look Back at Team Rocket’s Legacy
The return of Team Rocket-themed cards brings back fond memories for Pokémon TCG fans. The original Team Rocket set (2000) introduced Dark Pokémon, which had lower HP but stronger attacks. Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge (2000) introduced the first Owner’s Pokémon, including Rocket’s Pokémon. Neo Destiny (2002) continued this theme with both Dark and Light Pokémon.
Later, EX Team Rocket Returns (2004) merged these mechanics, featuring only Kanto and Johto Pokémon to reflect Team Rocket’s primary regions of operation. Now, in 2025, Team Rocket’s Pokémon are back, but Dark Pokémon are absent, possibly due to their exclusive ties to Generations I and II. Instead, the Owner’s Pokémon mechanic allows Team Rocket’s influence to extend across all generations.
More Than Just Cards – Team Rocket Merchandise
Alongside the Glory of Team Rocket set, a wide range of Team Rocket-themed accessories and apparel will be available. This includes a Glory of Team Rocket Attache Case Set priced at 14,900 yen, designed to store various Pokémon TCG items in style.
Final Thoughts & What’s Next
With its April 18 release in Japan and May 30 launch in English, this set is shaping up to be a nostalgic and strategic must-have for Pokémon TCG fans. Keep an eye on upcoming reveals, as secret rare cards are expected to add even more surprises.
